3 Tips For Creating Banners

Blog

Whether you need a banner for business purposes or a personal event, selecting the appropriate banner for the job will increase its durability, functionality, and help you send the right message. When choosing the appropriate banner, there are several factors you need to consider.

Choose Your Material

The materials you choose will depend on the placement of your banner. For outdoor signs, you will likely want a heavyweight vinyl that has been treated to be water and fade resistant. These banners are best suited for signage that needs to last for a while. For banners that only promote temporary events, such as a sale or an event, you may be able to achieve the same effect from vinyl that is lighter in weight. Water-resistance remains an important attribute, but it is not necessary to pay higher prices for fade-resistance if your banner will only be used for a few days. For indoor applications, laminated paper or cardstock can be used for your banners or other signs. If these signs will be in direct sunlight, such as a store window, choose options with a UV protective coating.

Decide On Placement

Most large banners come with grommets that allow you to use rope to secure them in front of a business or to nearby items. This makes the banners easier to hang and remain in place than using other methods, such as nails or adhesives. A good solution for indoor banners is the use of vertical stands. Instead of making a sign in the traditional landscape orientation, configure your sign to work in the portrait orientation. This way, you can utilize banner stands to make it easier to display signage. Another benefit of using banner signs is they are adjustable without much effort and can be reused for your next event or promotion.

Consider Color

Deciding on the colors for your banner may depend on its size and how it will be used. If you want to use warmer colors to match a theme or business logo, these bright colors are best suited for smaller banners. The standard design for signage is usually dark letters on a white background. If you choose this method, you do not have to stick with traditional black letters. The major goal is to create contrast between the fonts and background, which can be achieved using almost any combination of colors.

For example, a common pair of complementary colors is orange and blue. To achieve contrast without harsh colors, you might choose a muted orange background, which might be more peach or melon in color, with dark blue lettering. There are situations where light-colored letters and a dark background might be more appropriate, such as a banner that will be used at night or in low-light situations. The available light will reflect off the light-colored letters easier, making it more visible in this situation.

With many options for indoor and outdoor banners, the options can be overwhelming. Creating the right banner is a matter of using the appropriate materials for the job and having an effective design. For more information, talk to a professional like Signs BY Tomorrow.

Never Underestimate the Importance of Good Business Signs

When I started my first business, I had taken a few business classes in college, but I still had a lot to learn. I had a good product to sell, but at first, sales were very slow. I wasn't sure just how to drum up business, and I didn't have money left in my budget to invest in a big marketing campaign. I was very lucky that local marketing professional stopped into my business, and although I couldn't afford to hire him, he did give me one free important tip: invest in better signage! Since signs are relatively affordable, I took his advice and traded in my old banner for a quality professionally designed sign. Foot traffic and sales increased rapidly. I learned a lot during the sign design process that I want to share on my new blog to help other small business owners out there who are struggling!
