Protecting Your New Sign's Letter Tiles

Blog

If you own a restaurant, and you just purchased a sign to put out front of your establishment to inform customers of daily meal specials, the swapping of plastic letter tiles will be necessary each day. With daily use of letter tiles for a large sign comes the chance of wear. Here are some steps you can take to keep your sign's lettering system in the best of shape for as long as possible.

Store Letter Tiles In A Safe Location

Any letters you are not going to be using should be safely tucked away in a spot away from potential damage. It is best to place tiles in a box or bin in a stacked manner. This way the letter tiles will have ample protection from debris accumulation and will also have the stability of neighboring tiles to keep them from curling. Avoid placing the tiles in a spot where temperatures get too hot as this could lead to the warping of the plastic they are constructed from.

Clean Letter Tiles Appropriately

As you change your meal special notifications, take the time to wipe down each letter tile to remove any debris that may have accumulated on the plastic while it was in an outdoor setting. This can be done with a piece of microfiber cloth to help in avoiding the scratching of the colored portion of each letter. If letter tiles seem exceptionally dirty, dip them in a basin full of water before wiping them down. It is best to avoid using a running faucet to wash off your letter tiles as this can lead to the peeling of paint if the impact is too great.

Take Steps To Check Sign Surroundings

When you keep a letter tile sign on your property, its surroundings will make a difference in the quality of your letter tiles. Trim back any tree limbs so they do not disperse sap or drop needles, seeds, or leaves near your sign. Trimming the limbs will also aid in keeping pests from using the tree in an area where they put your sign at risk for dirtiness.

If possible, place your sign in a spot where it will not receive direct sunlight. The sun can fade your plastic letter tiles substantially, making them turn a yellowish color. Swapping letters often is necessary if your sign is in a sunlit area. If you are going to be presenting the same information for several days, swap each letter with a like letter after a day or two to help in keeping the plastic in a pristine state. Never Underestimate the Importance of Good Business Signs

When I started my first business, I had taken a few business classes in college, but I still had a lot to learn. I had a good product to sell, but at first, sales were very slow. I wasn't sure just how to drum up business, and I didn't have money left in my budget to invest in a big marketing campaign. I was very lucky that local marketing professional stopped into my business, and although I couldn't afford to hire him, he did give me one free important tip: invest in better signage! Since signs are relatively affordable, I took his advice and traded in my old banner for a quality professionally designed sign. Foot traffic and sales increased rapidly. I learned a lot during the sign design process that I want to share on my new blog to help other small business owners out there who are struggling!
